Gran Canaria has a surface area of just 1,560 km². The island is only 50 kms from one side to the other. The highest point on the island, Pico de Las Nieves, is 1,949 metres high.
Gran Canaria is divided into the following twenty-one municipalities:
Agaete, Agüimes, Artenara, Arucas,Firgas, Gáldar, Ingenio, Mogán, Moya, Las Palmas, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, San Nicolás de Tolentino, Sta. Brígida, Sta. Lucía de Tirajana, Santa María de Guía, Tejeda, Telde, Teror, Valleseco, Valsequillo and Vega de San Mateo.
