Puerto de La Nieves is a typically Spanish fishing village, full of picturesque charm. It’s become very popular with the tourists since the opening of the ferry line to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Over the years, the fishing industry has declined and tourism has taken its place. The authorities have made considerable investments into this industry over the past few years. They’ve built a beautiful new promenade with excellent seafood restaurants, galleries, and craft shops. There’s also a new hotel near the Guanche cemetery and some apartments blocks behind the harbour that all blend in very well to the surroundings.

One of the most popular dishes in the village is the “Caldo de Pescado” It’s a delicious fish soup, that’s served in all the restaurants. Don’t leave without trying it . It’s absolutely divine.

There’s a tiny church in the port called the Ermita de la Nieves. It houses a beautiful 16th century painting depicting the virgin and child. It was created by Flemish artist Joost Van Cleve. This is one of the town’s best treasures and is well worth checking out.

Head to the south of the village and you’ll come to the fascinating “Dedos de Dios” which literally means God’s Finger. It’s truly stunning - a massive 30-metre pinnacle of basalt rock that sticks out dramatically from the strange but impressive rock formations behind.

Sometimes, under certain light conditions, the solitary rock gives off a surreal, otherworldly appearance - quite spectacular and an excellent photo opportunity.
