Gran Canaria is famous for its climate; not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter. It’s one of the few places in the world that has what’s often described as the “perfect climate”. The climate here is mild, with pleasant and constant temperatures. In summer the average temperature is between 26 ºC and 28 ºC and in winter it’s between 22 ºC and 24 ºC.
Gran Canaria is volcanic in origin. Its climate is determined by the relief, the Gulf Stream and also it’s geographical latitude.
Trade winds prevail all year round over its mountainous terrain. There are numerous microclimates on the island that go from subtropical to continental. With such a variety of different climates, it’s often described as being a “miniature continent”.
It’s a land of vast climatic extremes. You might see snow on the mountain peaks while on the beach (just a few kms away) people are sunbathing and swimming. |
